The cost is so great, that even the pros need special insider discounts to be able to afford gear they use daily. The average person who recreates occasionally is definitely not prioritizing gear and without welcoming organizations to help ease and transition them into an outdoor activity, the average person may not ever participate due to not having the gear and equipment they need.
