Since the first time we went on that hike with you, we were hooked. The beautiful colors. The sounds. And the sense of adventure. Swoon. You got us good.

You wanted to introduce us to all your friends. And we couldn't wait to meet snowboarding, kayaking, climbing, mountain biking, and everyone else.

But then we met them. And they didn't exactly make us feel like they wanted us around. They said we were great together, but they were gaslighting us. They never liked us together. We weren't invited to things.

You constantly defended us. You told them they should open up and accept us. They should be more careful what they say and do so we don't feel left out. You tried but they didn't really take you seriously.

We're not breaking up. But we definitely need more than just talk. We need to do more than beg your friends to be accepted. We're awesome. We shouldn't have to ask to belong. We belong. And we want to feel welcome all the time, for real. Not just when you're around.

 

So we're finding our own friends. And our friends will always make us feel welcome. You're invited, of course. Tell your friends they're welcome, too, so long as they treat everyone respectfully.
